QNN Vocal Community Post 1 | 15 Sep 2009

It doesn't matter if you sing in the church choir or work as a session singer, significant vocal can lead to vocal damage. But there are warning signs that you can see and feel to determine whether your voice is at stake for potential damage.

Here are a common signs of significant vocal abuse:

  • Throat is tender to touch after use.
  • Voice is hoarse at the end of singing.
  • Throat is very dry, with a noticeable "tickle" that is persistent. Check dehydration.
  • While singing, voice goes in and out.
  • Inability to produce your highest notes and pianissimo (softest) level.
  • Persistent hoaresness or an inability to sing with a clear voice after 24-48 hours of vocal rest.
Treat your voice sensibly when you feel run down. This necessitates the development of accurate perceptions by the singer of why the voice is feeling tired. Accurate self-evaluation will lead one to therapeutic practices which will return you to vocal health inthe shortest period of time.

Of course, if in doubt, seek professional help.

Paschal's 'Dinner and Jazz' music series | 11 Sep 2009

The 'Dinner and Jazz' lead vocalist has been announced, and Jae is on top! The singing entertainer nabbed the lead vocalist spot.

Jae told friends, "I'm excited and honored to be requested for the lead vocalist spot for the 'Dinner and Jazz' event. I've been blessed this year to have performed and sung songs that inspire people and connect me to them. Music is amazing that way! I've spent so much time watching the greats like Marvin Gaye, Rachelle Ferrell, Sade, Prince, Sammy Davis Jr., Prince and Maxwell who are all my personal favorites. It's beautiful when you interpret a popular song your way and you're are able to touch people. I hope to achieve that again next Tuesday."

Why her friends call her Sophia | 23 Feb 2009

Vocalist Jae Franklin says she was nicknamed 'Sophia' in college.

'I was so sassy. I was extremely sarcastic and because I would wear house slippers, listen to classical music and hand stitch, my friends said I reminded them of Sophia from The Golden Girls.'

When it comes to being herself, the 27-year-old who is now a trendsetter has always been happy to just be herself.

'I would wear rollers or pincurl my hair at night; however, I used to get talked about a lot for wearing my blue satin cap to bed. They really got a kick out of that,' she said.
